The Word of God church officially started in the year 2013 Feb 24th in Basel Switzerland, by Ps. Uthayashankar Piyadasa and his wife Rebecca Uthayashankar. In the year 2013 Feb 10th by the fervent leading of the holy spirit Ps. Shankar and His wife Rebecca obeyed to the word of God and started a small prayer group in a small Room, and the first gathering was about 14 members, God blessed the humble beginning, and by the grace of God.

The group increased in number and they moved to a new location and by the immense presence of God and the continuous guidance of the holy spirit, people of the church were blessed and their lives were transformed and they were not just Believers or members of the congregation, they became the carriers of their testimony, and rapidly the church grew and many lives were touched, healed, and built for the glory of God.

About Pastor

Brothers and Sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3: 13 & 14

Ps.Uthayashankar, the Pastor and founder of The Word of God Church, is a Husband to Rebecca and a Father to Pearl & Jasper, He went to Lanka Bible College for His BTH (Bachelor of Theology) and he is a great Bible teacher, and his heart towards teaching the word of God to many people led him to start the Word of God Bible College.

His burden towards reaching the unreached keeps him going tirelessly in winning souls for Christ Jesus and to build them on the word of God. And as the bible teaches about doing good deeds to the community, he started the community development ministry called the Lazarus Ministry, helping the poor and needy.

He is also one of the members of the Evangelische Allianz Basel-stadt, partnering with other churches to build the kingdom of God. His Faith in God and Christ Jesus Being his Strength, makes him to rise up and run for Christ even through all odds & Struggles.

What we Believe & stand on:

We believe in One True God the creator of Heaven & earth; He is the Supreme God the One above all things,

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created
and have their being. - Revelation 4:11

We believe in the Trinity, God the father, God the Son, God the holy Spirit

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. - John 14:26

We Believe in Water baptism:

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit - Matthew 28:19

Baptism is an identity to the world showing that, “that the Individual has accepted Christ Jesus as his/her personal saviour, and obliged to walk in his ways and according to his teachings.

We Believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the gifts of the holy spirit. - Acts 2:1-4, 1 Cor 12:4-11,

As the church, the body of the Christ we celebrate the Life of Jesus, and we highly value the sacrifice of his life for us, for the Love he has towards us, in remembrance of that, the church comes together as a family and take part in the Lord’s table in his Holy communion. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. - Luke 22:19&20

As per the Great Commission, the church strongly springs forth it’s branches towards evangelism, making Disciples of Jesus Christ by teaching the word of God in just the way it is handed down to the apostles, we make sure we follow the sound doctrine.

We believe and wait for his Silent Coming the rapture and also, we believe in his Majestic Visible Coming as the King of Kings, he will Judge the Living & the Dead, we are so excited to serve and worship the one true King, who will be reigning forever & ever and those whose names are written in the book of life will inherit the Everlasting Life that Jesus has promised and for those whose names are not written in the book of life will be destined to Everlasting Death in hell. - 1 Thess 4:15-18, John 14:2 & 3, Rev 22:20, Matthew 25:46

As The Body of Christ, we live in this world but not of the world, we wait for the appointed time to meet our Lord in the clouds, till then as a church it is our duty to pray, intercede for our city, nation and for all the nations of the earth for their repentance and for their salvation, as we are called to be the Salt & light to the world.
